About the 9th grade was when I realized my unfortunate combination of strength and klutziness, and the lifelong struggle ahead of me to control both. So many things broken by pure accident, so many people injuring themselves by colliding with me, and so much frustration every single day no matter how much I tried to lay low.

A couple years later, I discovered I also needed to be careful about joking something was going to happen next. See, I had a friend at the time, since the 7th Grade, who would slug me on the arm every time she saw me. I joked since late 9th, early 10th, our high school--which was built mostly from brick and mortar and metal bars--would burn. One night, I was out Christmas shopping when I spotted her, and we chatted for a few minutes. She forgot to slug me. The day after that? The bathrooms on one side of the campus burst into flames. I wish I could say this would be the last time a joke like this, or even the first time, such a prediction would come true; it's the one that stuck out and made me realize I need to be more careful. lol
