I like to think that he's an intentional deconstruction of the trope since he is ALWAYS called out on it and it DOES result in him being an outcast, which isn't usually the case with characters who have that trait in manga. I also agree that Meliodias' incessant fondling of Elizabeth in Seven Deadly Sins was pretty tasteless and in no way added to the series or his character. The in-universe justification for it does NOT make it any less so.
