As brilliant as Heyman was and as influential as ECW was on wrestling, he did a lot of shady things to the people who worked for him in ECW. He lied to them about the financial state of ECW. He issued checks that bounced to the talent. He made them pay for things out of their own pockets and promised to reimburse them later. He secured a deal with WWE for himself while ECW went bankrupt.
