there is a disturbing trend among a particular caste of hyper-rich tech bro in that they just...say things, things with no supporting evidence at all, and they expect the world to change to fit whatever it is they just said. It's not unique to Musk, though he's by far the most prolific example.

I think it's a matter of none of them ever being properly told "No, that's dumb as hell"

kirbymuncher posted... I kinda see there being 2 parts to the twitter purchase

part 1 is that he wants an established platform with a large number of essentially captive users. good for getting your views heard, good for trying to expand into other ventures since you already have a massive audience

part 2 is that he wants to stick it to the journalists. The tech sector (not just him, I mean in general) and tech-related journalism do not have a very good relationship and a lot of important people on both ends clearly hate each other. so doing things like messing with their blue checkmarks is probably just sort of fun/vengeful for him in a way

part 3 was that he managed to dig himself into a legal sinkhole where he -had- to buy it after making the offer and has since been retroactively attempting to justify doing that (poorly)
