"Excuse me, they didnt put themselves down as neo-Nazis, and you had some very bad people in that group. But you also had people that were very fine people on both sides. You had people in that group excuse me, excuse me. I saw the same pictures as you did. You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down, of to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name." - Donald Trump

Let's set aside the fact that Trump is clutching pearls over the removal of a statue to a Confederate leader. Let's also assume for the sake of argument that the Unite the Right rally was a gathering of non-racist conservatives who wanted their non-racist conservative voices heard.

The very instant literal Nazis showed up to march alongside them, very fine conservatives would have crossed the street to stand shoulder to shoulder with liberals to protest the presence of, again, literal Nazis. They didn't. At best, they tolerated literal Nazis because their shared support of Donald Trump was more important to them than denouncing white supremacy.

In other words, there were no very fine conservatives at the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville.
