Ive gotta finish off the rest of the Eden questline and the "Safekeeping" yellow quest. after that i -think- its a straight shot through to the end of the Endwalker MSQ and even patches with no detours?

You'll have to do role quests again, but the side content in EW has no major story tie ins. The trial series is built into the Patch MSQ so you're doing that whether you like it or not.

The story completely breaks off into a new plot in patches this time though. It's not like ShB where the current running plot lines carry into patches for a bit. There's also very little set up for DT. Only like half of the last patch is any build up to it at all.

seems like the stakes going into Endwalker are quite low? When I watched the trailer I was promised yshtola arguing with sharlayan, invasions of horrors and everyone looking to the moon with MC on it. Yet MC was on the ground looking at the moon with everyone else
and its just some sundered ascian flying around summoning some towers and primals

If you've done the patch stuff, you've seen a bit about what those towers can do. Low stakes to WoL maybe, but a massive threat to the world at large.

As for the bigger stakes, you do still have Ascians running around (just not unsundered ones), and their "god" Zodiark.
