They talk about how they've evolved beyond war and strife but that's all they do with the other groups and species. And, somehow, they're better than their capitalist neighbors, or their imperialist neighbors, or their fascist neighbors, or the fascist neighbors on the other side of the wormhole... Face it, life's just better in the Federation. They might fall short of living up to their piety, but I'd hardly call them hypocrites.
