The real meat of the novel is Louis's descent into grief and madness, spanning nearly a third of the book. Louis's dream about ~~Gage surviving and growing up~~ made me cry. The 2019 movie glossed over all that (in a fucking montage) in favor of being a generic horror flick about ~~a creepy little girl~~. How original. This is the exact reason why the 2019 film disappointed me.
