The other aspect of it is that Xenoblade launched in the west at a time when interest in the Wii was cratering (and by the US release, had cratered) yet still overperformed in terms of sales. It was basically the highlight of the late Wii era.

In general it was a very successful console, a lot of the contenders here probably way outsold expectations. In Xenoblade's numbers, that's abysmal compared to the rest of these games. For most Wii owners it might as well have not existed. I kinda want to be convinced but most arguments read to me sometging like; basically we really love this game because is is more in line with what kinds of games we like and it's amazing it even came to exist. Like yeah it sold relatively well, but the expectations to it had already considered when it came out. Sports, Resort, Fit, Mario Kart, NSBW, Just Dance were all bigger sells of the late years. Basically the Nintendo Selects of the same games gave the console what life it had near the end.

Fwiw, I think it's fun to discuss and if I can antirally one of my two favorite Wii games to the top doing this that's kind of a win in itself. But I absolutely don't see it outside of a b8 or similar narrow kind of view where we aren't big fans of most big games there.
