It's absolutely insane how a portion of America shills for corporations. For free no less. They used to have to pay ad execs to do the job regular people are willing to do for free now.

It's because Americans secretly love authority and bootlicking. They genuinely believe that we need a ruling class to tell us what to do, otherwise everything will fall into chaos. How else are we supposed to figure out an efficient method of feeding everyone, providing medical care or wiping our own ass if we don't relinquish control over the economy to our billionaire overlords, who are clearly smarter and more capable than us because they're richer? After all, they're the real ones holding everything together, not the workers, who are too stupid to figure out how to be billionaires.

It's also why religious fundamentalism maps so cleanly onto right-wing politics. We need God to tell us how to think, act and feel about certain things because we'd be immoral, depraved degenerates otherwise. America is made up of a bunch of people who would rather not deal with thinking for themselves.
