I grew up about 4 hours north of NYC and the biggest earthquake I ever felt was when I was a kid in the late 90s waking me up at 7am. I lived in socal for 5 years and never felt anything even close to that.

There was another one, somewhere close to 2001 as well.

New York is actually shredded by fault lines.
Particularly where we are from.
The Adirondacks are almost nothing but fault lines.
Lake George is a perfact, and most beautiful, example of a Horst and Graben.
Which is to say, the mountains along the lake are rising ((Horst)) ~Rise
And the lake bed itself is falling ((Graben)) ~Grave.

I have what I think is a piece of a slickenside that I got up on the that I got on that never-never land route that brings up from Ft. Edwards up to Ticonderoga. US-4. I could post a pic of it.

Anyway, shredded NYS.
