On one hand, the teaser trailer makes it look like some effort has been made to capture the spirit of the original. (Sorry, Freudian slip - not intentional bad pun.)

On the other hand, Tim Burton's Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian was the one time the creative artist won against the system. He intentionally wrote a bad screenplay and the studio dismissed it. Today, they'd throw the script at the screen no matter how bad it was. But when it happened, it happened and he got them.

But now that's been taken away. The Empire's one loss has been avenged, the creative artist is forced to make the sequel he never wanted to make, and the precedent has been set that literally every creative artist must fall in line and do as they're told or else a sequel will be made without them.
