The "lol everyone's dumb but me" attitude prevents people from working against the ones actually causing problems, because everything wrong with society is written off as "well that's cuz people are stupid." Like, if Americans are stupid and supposedly voted for Trump because they're stupid, no need to address the Electoral College or voter suppression or conservative indoctrination, right? They can both be true at the same time.
