To steal an analogy from Tom Scott: If instead of a machine, you had to tell your vote to some guy at the polling booth and he promises he'll record it correctly. How confident would you be that everything was on the up and up? You could give some sort of receipt or record of the vote, at which point you now have an insanely expensive pencil. This is one of the worst analogies I've ever read in my life. Do you understand the world of difference between the technical capabilities of what a machine can do, and how much more accurate and concise that would be than just some guy trying to remember?
