Lots of speculation, but the short version is everyone expects Fandom is aiming to purge the social boards entirely because all they care about are the guides and Q&A sections. This is about gradual containment so that the entire community doesn't just leave all at once. I'd like to clarify that everyone expects Fandom to either do that or shut down all non-gaming related social boards. So special interest boards like Electronics and Card Games might be spared, but not the Food or Poetry/Essays boards. Alternatively, that they're planning to do the latter, but in the end, won't have the patience to accomplish it, so eventually they'll just say "fuck it!" and nuke all of the social boards (I originally believed the former, but now believe the latter. The Fandom admins and execs have already faced exponentially more pushback from the community and a lack of the mods "knowing how to do their job without being told" than they anticipated.) ...
