This does set a bad precedent, because it opens the door to censorship of any platforms the government doesn't agree with based on concerns of "nation security", but in this case, well... the platform is a genuine concern for national security. Tiktok is in the pocket of the CCP, no two ways about it. All platforms are of course guilty of harvesting and selling user data, but Tiktok takes that to the nth extreme, infiltrating every other app and message on every device in the hands of millions of Americans every single day. All of this information goes directly to China. They also deliberately censor harmful information about China on the platform, use it to spread propaganda, etc. etc. etc.

Moon has a couple pretty good videos about this on Youtube.

The solution in this bill is literally just keeping the app in its current form, but allowing the US to do the spying instead.

Do not be fooled at the intentions here.
