I had a good relationship with my dad but its weird to me there is so many people here in their 30s and 40s living at home. I couldnt wait to be completely independent. I moved out my senior year of high school into an apartment when I was 17.

Did that for like a year and a half until I left for the Navy. The only time I had roommates was for a brief period in the Navy when I lived off the ship in Virginia Beach for about 1.5 years between two major deployments.

After the military I came home and was back at my dads for a few months. Gave him $300 a month and that was in 1999. About 3 months later I moved to a nice apartment. Lived there 4-5 years until I bought my house in April 2004.

I always wanted to live on my own and again I had a good relationship with my dad. And it was only him and I, and he worked and slept all the time. I was basically alone even when I lived with him. I still wanted to be truly on my own. I actually wanted to move out at 16 when I had my license but I didnt have enough money/earning potential to make two years work so I put it off until 17.
