similar thing happened to Richard Pryor in the 70s. He chewed out a group of gay activists for waiting until the civil rights movement had ended to start protesting. Pryor was outraged because he felt the gay rights movement did nothing for black people during the civil rights movement and then they said their struggles were equal...Pryor did not hate gay people (he even had a week long fling with a guy in the 70s), but he felt they were piggybacking on the civil rights movement after many activists had already been killed, harmed,etc... He's wrong. There was gay activism during the civil rights movement and it was one of the main factors of getting homosexuality removed from the DSM. He just didn't hear about it. Maybe he wasn't looking.
