Partner sounds like youre trying to avoid any deterministic gendered language. It sounds like youre trying too hard to sound like a grown-up, which is what a kid does. And it lacks any romantic connotation, like I already said. I disagree. Even though "partner" is gender neutral I still think it's plenty romantic, given when it's the context for someone's relationship with someone else. It's also a deeper thing for me. My girlfriend isn't just my girlfriend, she is my partner. We're a team.
