SteamOS is pretty easy to navigate. It only becomes a little tricky if you want to dual boot, emulate, or run something you need a launcher for. Most games really are as easy as buy, download, play. Also in terms of price you can buy a brand new Steam Deck for $349. A Switch OLED is $350.
