There isn't free health care for anyone. You either get insurance through your job or the government, but you are required to get it by law (though there is no penalty if you don't). There is no citizens only benefit outside of voting that I am aware of (interest rates on loans too, but that's set by banks, not the government). Even without insurance though healthcare is very cheap. I got a full physical, chest x-ray and blood work for about $40 when I first moved here before I got insurance.

Japan has by far the cheapest housing of any developed country. No idea where you heard it was expensive. You can literally get free houses in very rural areas you wouldn't want to live, but in general it's just very cheap.
I recall reading that due to having limited space, dense cities, and a large population the average size of the house is much smaller and houses and education are really expensive. Glad that was wrong.

I see. Good to know that the healthcare is cheap!
