We also had kid movies that really weren't for kids. Gremlins? In the last 20-30 years, there has been strides towards making things actually kid-friendly. And part of this is they usually stay away from things that provoke negative emotions or sadness. In other words, yes, more sheltered today than they were from decades past. --- If you want something done right, do it yourself.
