Save Ellie, every time. There's no point in a cure because the world is beyond hope regardless. Imagine the infected all just disappear instantly. You still have these problems:

- 60% of the world's population is freaking dead.
- The military is the only remaining portion of the US government, and to all appearances just another street gang.
- Literal anarchy virtually everywhere.
- Virtually every manmade structure and infrastructure needs to be demolished and rebuilt.
- The economy amounts to bartering if you're lucky and more commonly i kill u and take it.

Never mind that the fireflies are one of the most mustache twirling villain organizations in all of fiction and you'd be giving them the mother of all bargaining chips to gain power.

Literally the best thing they can do is what they did: Abandon the world at a macro scale and find a community that's rebuilding small.

Literally none of those things devalue a potential cure except maybe the Fireflies being shitty, are you insane? "There's no point in a cure" is an outright false statement.
