Unless I'm misremembering, there's a fun fact about this: part of the reason they chose that specific time frame is because the game universe starts to fall apart if it keeps going for too long. They actually do simulate the physics of things and it only works for so long before it fucks up.

It's also programmed to work like the Planet Express ship. The player is always in the exact center of the universe. When you jump, you stay still. The game world just goes down and then back up.
