If you're just playing to get through the story, Big is a non-issue. His stages are comically easy and short. I can see why people can get frustrated with them though. Some of the fishing mechanics are not communicated very well. Like holding the stick neutral when you get a bite, I've seen a lot of people get tripped up on that.

And if you're going for all emblems, I don't think the game tells you that you need all the lure upgrades for the 2000g fish to even spawn. This actually tripped me up back then. I spent way too much time trying to find these super elusive fish only to eventually realize I was missing a lure upgrade...
