Id totally respect if he just said he just cant finish it. It's pretty obvious there are issues going on here with him finishing the book, unless he just doesn't make it a priority. It has been 13 years since his last book in the series, the longest wait before that in installments was 6 years. So yeah I would say he either is not working on it like he did in the past, or there are things that he won't talk about that are making it harder to write it. This is also one of the latest updates we have heard from GRRM about the book. In November 2023, Martin indicated that the number of pages written was the same as the year before, stating that he was "struggling with it" and doesn't know when it will be finished --- Getting too damn old for this crap! ...
