I think a lot of people believe those first few minutes to be representative of the entire game's combat because lots of NES games do shackle you with a pitifully tiny weapon and lack of tools for the entire game. I wouldn't have had the patience either, as a kid, but I played this one when I was like 20 so I was able to get through the tough start.I think Zelda 2 becomes pretty tolerable for the most part once you have a strategy for defeating Iron Knuckles. I'm not really sure how they INTENDED you to beat them, because they're so good at blocking your straightforward attacks, but it didn't take me too much experimenting as a kid to realize that if I jumped and attacked it would go through their blocks, and even better if I was crouch stabbing while flying at them. It's a bit silly, but it's almost always better to be in the air in Zelda II to avoid the lag on your attacks - the regular standing swing is just the worst option by far in almost every situation! ...
