Link was so dominant that if you wanted to go pick against the popular consensus, GTA at least made sense with the amount of copies sold and discussion generated about it. Though imagine if we had seen the GTA3 protagonist in the Summer 2002 contest, because he would have been labeled as either "Fido" or "the GTA 3 guy."
