Anagram 10/26/24 11:57:17 AM #395: | StarCraft vs Halo Match (2004): I don't actually remember this match that well. I'm very bad at these contests, I've entered all of them and only been on the leaderboard once. But I do remember clicking StarCraft without even thinking about the seed numbers, and then StarCraft won, and I thought... "Well, yeah, obviously." The best contest match was, is, and forever will be Link vs Draven vs Shepard. Nothing else will ever even come close. Whenever someone makes a contest match ranking and that's not #1, they're just wrong. They're just wrong. But it is funny, and it really speaks to this site's demographics, that Halo, which is only three years younger than StarCraft, gets like 1% of the respect. This truly is the site for people born in the late 80s. Stop Poking Me Meat Hook Vespene Gas Dragoon (Word) Hemet Nesingwary Jim Raynor Nukes Diablo 1 Recreation Event (Diablo III) Overwatch (Game) Uther the Lightbringer: A pretty flat character, but he plays a good Obi-Wan to Arthas' Luke, until things go off the rails. I like how Uther is just extremely judgmental of everything Arthas does, he makes zero attempt to reason with Arthas or talk him down or anything. Just "I won't kill those people" and then later "I'm gonna kill you now." Jaina does a lot of "I wish I'd done things differently, how responsible am I for the actions of the people around me?" and Uther is 100% "Fuck you, this is all your own choice, I have nothing but contempt for you and your friends." And you know what? To an extent, he's right. Arthas' decisions were his own, but... there still was nothing else he could have done in Stratholme. There is no way anyone had the time to build Uther a tomb in the Western Plaguelands, by the way. That place should logically have been crawling with undead since the end of the war. Anyway, solid character, thank God he never shows up again in a later expansion and turns into a blue angel. Sombra ARG Tychus Findlay Wow Classic Hardcore Wrath of the Lich King Opening Cinematic The Barrens Winston Psychopath Mei Ilios Bottomless Pit Overwatch SFM Pornography Stitches Deckard Cain: I wouldn't say a single word to him. I would stay a while and listen. And that's what no one else did. Anyway, Deckard Cain is cool. He's barely a character, he's just the old mentor who knows a little about what's going on. As far as mascots for series go, you can do way worse than him. He's more entertaining than Diablo! At least he has a meme! Why Diablo 3 kills him is beyond me. It achieves nothing for the plot, and his role as the guy who knows things is immediately taken over by Tyrael. D3 is also the game that introduces the very sympathetic Leah character, then kills her in the cruelest way possible. Deeply unfortunate writing. Overwatch and TF2 Comparisons Jade Golems Wings of Liberty Othmar Garithos Tristram The Butcher Act III (Diablo II): Man, I don't remember this at all. You want to know what I remember from D2? The first area, the desert city and sewers (act 2?), and Hell. I'm looking up a LP of this... Oh, this was the big fort, and then there's a dead forest outside of it, okay. Yes, I remember these spider caverns. I'm sorry, I don't understand why you're saying it's "nothing like the other acts" in terms of map design and enemies? I'm gonna have to ask you to expand on that, because this just looks like D2's midgame to me. Vicarious Visions Infesting a Probe and Summoning Protoss Units as Zerg (SC2): I mean, same thing as the DA mind control from the first game, right? It's a funny idea, but it's so impractical that it will never actually come up in a multiplayer game ever. EVER. If you can do this, then you've already won anyway, and you're just flexing on your opponent. Dr. Boom (Card) Looking for Baal? Artanis Rakanishu Rogue (Diablo) - Fifty DKP Minus Sombra Bound Maps (UMS): The thing where you have a single unit and have to dodge a bunch of things and get to the other side? Man, I'm not a "cares about super precise timing" gamer. I would never play Mario Maker for that reason. Infestor (Unit) Lurker (Unit) Diablo III Terran Building Flight Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal Warcraft II Ana Mothership (Unit) Paladin Builds (Diablo II) Lost Vikings II: Norse by Norsewest Prison Break (World of Warcraft) Illidan Stormrage: Man, I remember making a DotA clone as a kid, and including Illidan's model as the "Demon Ninja" class. I was that kind of kid. Illidan is just so damn cool. It's always cool when you have someone use the forbidden dark arts against the evildoers, and then get judged for it by the more traditional good guys. He's just so utterly unlike every other depiction of an elf, being this giant buff guy with a blindfold and demonic powers. I've talked a lot about pathos, and yeah, Illidan gets it all. He's the guy who will do anything for his people, even damn himself. He's the guy who was rejected by the woman he loves, and still holds a candle for her. He's the guy who fights back against the demons by assembling an army of rejects and outcasts. He's the guy who's pursued by a madwoman who can only see things in black and white. Everything cool in WC3 is challenged into Illidan and Arthas, and they are by far the most compelling and interesting characters as a result. And while Arthas gets an okay WoW death (even if it's made worse in Shadowlands), Illidan really, truly does not. It is baffling that Illidan is even a bad guy in WoW, it just makes no sense. Completely bizarre writing. If I was ignoring WoW, then Illidan would be in the second highest tier, but because I shat all over Sylvanas and Kael, I guess I have to do the same for him. Although, he's still better than either of them! Jeff Kaplan Videos Stratholme Queen (StarCraft 1) Asmongold Ion Interview - What Sword? --- Not changing this sig until I decide to change this sig.
