In particular, Mikami was impressed by how well the team behind Resident Evil 4 Remake fleshed out the "half-assed scenario" that he had written in just two weeks. From Mikami's perspective, the premise of the original Resident Evil 4 was something far from perfect a hastily put-together mess.

The remake was able to succeed where he failed by having a deep understanding of the game's characters and their interpersonal interactions. "A good understanding of the backbone of each character" enabled the remake team to improve upon just about everything related to the narrative. Even down to the dialogue, Mikami was impressed by how well Resident Evil 4 Remake was able to build off his work.
