Yeah I do also think a positive case needs to be made for immigration. It is as much or more about feelings than fact. Take brexit in the UK. Immigration actually skyrocketed after the vote and again after implementation, yet public sentiment towards immigration improved significantly. Which I think was more about the general feeling than actual immigration statistics or policy as well as more publicity on the benefits of immigration and a reduction in media coverage. It got worse again over the last two years when the channel crossings started (because of brexit lmao) and people saw the images of the boats coming over and migrants drowning. It is an emotional, not a rational, subject.

Being with a Turkish partner for five years was super revealing on this subject. Turkey took 3 million refugees from Syria so Europe wouldnt have to, and the left in Turkey is actually the relatively anti-immigration force while the hard right government is very generous to them. By contrast the UK took 6000 refugees from Syria. It does put into relief that in many cases the issue is largely imagined.
