The thing that concerns me about season 2 is that they really blew their load as far as fanservice went. S1 had very little to do with any existing LotR material, which disappointed a lot of people, and I feel like they overcompensated with S2 in a way that's going to be hard to follow up (both in terms of keeping that level of fanservice up and because several of the choices they made for fanservice's sake have made it harder to continue certain plotlines). I'm cautiously optimistic about S3 after the way S2 managed to salvage things, but there are a lot of issues with how S2 has set things up that are going to complicate that.

Idk I'd kind of disagree with season 1. They made Elrond, Galadriel and Sauron into main cast characters. It was just their personalities and motivations were nonsensical and didn't match up with existing lore.

I'd been interested in Sauron at first, as I thought they were building to a narrative where he was trying to be good and atone, but would be rejected and fall deeper into evil. But they just doubled down on everything somehow being part of his master plan, which made no sense at all.
