Progressives weren't just saying he was running a bad campaign. They were going on and on about how they hated the man. This is all before the debate even happened. Biden had unfavorable conditions before the debate because of the shitfest progressives had to start leading into 2024. Then rather than focus on some of the strengths of Biden's presidency and the real world implications of a subsequent Trump presidency, an enormously discouraging amount of progressives decided to join in with so called "anti-establishment" bashing that right-wingers eagerly egged on concerning any shortcoming they could point out about Biden.
