From a gameplay perspective: Witchyworld > Glitter Gulch Mine > Hailfire Peaks > Cloud Cuckooland > Mayahem Temple > Jolly Roger's Lagoon > Terrydactyland > Grunty Industries Music perspective is, weirdly, exactly the same if you swap Witchyworld and Jolly Roger's Lagoon, as well as Terrydactyland and Grunty Industries. The worlds were too large, there was too much backtracking, and you were constantly running into puzzles where you needed to be a different character configuration (since you either needed to be Banjo and Kazooie, solo Banjo, solo Kazooie, Mumbo, or whatever the Wumba transformation for that level was). There's a jiggy in Witchyworld that I used to use as my go-to for exactly how fucked up BT's design could be. It's been years, so the specifics elude me now, but it was something like: Go find Mumbo's hut -> Turn on the power to the space area -> Go back to Mumbo's hut, turn back into BK -> Knock down a door in the space area to get to the next room -> Go find Wumba's Wigwam -> Turn into the van -> Go back to the space area and pay coins to open another door -> Go back to Wumba's and transform back into BK -> Go back to the space area and play a minigame three times to get one jiggy. Like, half of that is just pointless padding that isn't adding any fun to the game. The original Banjo Kazooie remains Rare's best platformer, because it kept things simple and the design is super-tight. --- Kill 1 man: You are a murderer. Kill 10 men: You are a monster. Kill 100 men: You are a hero. Kill 10,000 men, you are a conqueror! ... Copied to Clipboard! |
