Kinzinger to House Dems: Get out there and do something about Musk
Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) on Monday told House Democrats to get out there and do something about tech billionaire Elon Musk after employees at the U.S. Agency for International Developments (USAID) headquarters in Washington were told to work from home.
All these agencies where employees are being locked out of, how about you send members of Congress with those employees to walk them into work, or just send members [of] Congress to go into the building and investigate what these people are doing, dare them to stop you because they cant, Kinzinger said in a video posted on the social platform X.
Okay, thats a free idea, he added. Why is it that the former Republicans are the ones that are coming up with all the ideas? Get out there and do something, youre in the minority. Your message is your weapon. Use your message. Quit staying at home.
Late last week, senior USAID officials were put on administrative leave after they refused to hand over classified material to Musks Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Dear Democratic Leaders: heres a free idea, send members of congress into the buildings where Elons people are and see what theyre doing, Kinzinger also captioned his Monday X post. Kinzinger, who was one of 10 House Republicans to vote to impeach President Trump for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot and was one of two Republicans who served on the committee investigating that day, decided not to run for reelection to a seventh term in 2022. A source also told The Hill that a top Treasury Department nonpolitical career official, David Lebryk, retired at the end of last week following him butting heads with Musk on government payment systems. Lebryks retirement came in the wake of a clash over a request from DOGE for access to a payment system used by Treasury officials to disburse funds. The Hill has reached out to the White House, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and the House Democratic Caucus for comment on Kinzingers remarks.
