Topic | Missouri AG sues Starbucks for being more female and less white |
ChocoboMogALT 02/13/25 5:59:07 PM #15: | Starbucks will hire almost anyone with a pulse and no criminal record (and even then, it depends). Their culture and benefits has created an environment that attracts and retains women, trans people, former service members, and PoC. Anecdotally: I worked at Starbucks for 10 years. I legitimately had a DM who said "she'd never promote a male (to SM)." It took 7 years for her to get fired, which was only after she went visibly crazy. Company-wide, I don't think there's any inherent bias towards woman. It's just a job that many women prefer. Once people start making connections (getting friends hired), it cascades. There was a store in my area that was the "bro-store," where males who wanted a more masculine environment would work - but there were 30-40% men in other stores. I moved states and saw similar patterns, no inherent bias towards women, just more applicants (and more PoC because of my area). The only potential bias I did see was their mentorship program which is actively offered towards PoC. They want and encourage PoC to get promoted, but I've never seen a PoC promoted who wasn't overly qualified -- though, anecdotally, I have seen others promoted through pure nepotism and favoritism. But, I don't see a program that's designed to counteract unconscious bias as a negative, especially in contrast to the alternative. --- "We live in a country Hasire.." ~ yosouf06 REVOLVER STAKE! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v717/ChocoboMog123/AltEisenRChocoboMog.png ...
