I think the last time I actively enjoyed something tangentially related to the idol industry was this song by Mondo Grosso, because a (now former) idol provided the vocals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbcGp7SIpKA Checking the date... Oof, it was a good while ago. Humble_Novice posted... Hope you enjoy your time in Japan. Thank you! teep_ posted... Congratulations! Maybe I'll be able to join you once I complete my PhD in a few years :3 Do it! Once I finish my master's I'll have the option to extend my scholarship and go for a PhD, but I'm not sure if I'll do that or just try to find a job over there after it. It depends on how I end up finding this experience overall. [LFAQs-redacted-quote] Thank you. When it comes to learning Japanese, what I recommend to people is to first learn the absolute basics with a beginner grammar resource like Genki or Minna no Nihongo, or even Tae Kim's Grammar Guide if you want something brief (that may not be as accurate/correct as I'd like) and once you're familiar with basic grammar and basic vocabulary start immersing as soon as possible. Immersion (while looking up things you don't understand) is king. There are tools that can make this process go smoothly, Anki for making flashcards, Yomitan to do dictionary lookups while you're reading things on the internet, or even setting up a texthooker so you're able to do lookups while watching, reading or playing something. I won't say it's a walk in the park, because it's not, but there's definitely a myriad of resources that make learning Japanese extremely accessible if you know which ones to use. If you ever end up needing any particular tips, guidance or anything like that, I'm super passionate about languages in general and I'd love to help! Spiderman23J posted...
