Tickets for the one day theatrical release of I Heart Willie tonight. It'll be the first Mickey Mouse horror movie we've seen so far; I think there was one late last year, but I neglected it in favor of other stuff I wanted to squeeze in. I think Screamboat comes out in April, probably in a similar small theatrical release fashion. I don't think any of these movies are related to the larger "Twisted Childhood" universe by the Blood & Honey team. What a time to be alive.

Over the last few nights we've watched a few more streaming films:

Are You There?: A film with a similar vibe as the great "Talk To Me" from 2023, but obviously it doesn't quite live up to those highs. It starts out well enough, and throughout I feel it has good production values and a quality look/sound to it. Never feels too low budget in a way you can tell. The general plot revolves around the main character and a summoning candle gifted to her by her grandmother, which she can use to speak to her after she passes away, but you have to be careful of course because if you don't follow the rules who knows what spirit the candle might summon. Sadly the last act of the film destroys any good will it builds because nothing is real! A difficult trope to pull off, and this wasn't it. Everything that has happened so far in the movie is totally tossed because rather than being a psychology student, our main character is actually the one in the asylum. Characters she imagined are either non-existent or fulfill different roles in the hospital. And it just sort of ends, no resolution. And the candle, the driving force of the horror elements of the film, apparently just never existed either. It's a shame because with better writing they probably had something theater ready here.

Inhabitants: This one follows a couple who have recently moved in together but they begin to be haunted by a presence from one of their pasts. Specifically, it's a vengeful spirit of a youth group pastor. This is one of those decent movies that's okay, never really offensive but it probably won't hold a large place in my memory banks either. I will say that it's difficult to really fault the ghost in this case. Even if you are not religious, and I certainly qualify and definitely don't care if two people are living together and sexing out of wedlock, his motive for haunting the guy is... pretty justified really. I mean he dies trying to save the guy from a fire, and the guy he was saving is not actually there because he's off having premarital sex instead. Not only that, he started the fire by accident and was too horny to stop and check the space heater he kicked over on his way sneaking out. It's okay, has some decent spooks and the actors do a decent job.
