Again, it doesn't cost "$340", it costs 50,000 yen which converts to $340 but that only matters if you have USD to begin with which 99% of the intended market doesn't have.

For context the Switch was 29,980 yen on release which was $270 at the time. Just because the exchange rate is bad and that's only worth $205 now doesn't mean it's magically more affordable in the local market. To make it cost $450 they would have to charge 65,000 which is more than double the price of the Switch and would be like if it cost $650 in the US

Anyway they probably don't want people from overseas coming over and buying them all up and leaving none for the locals. Sucks for people who live here and don't speak Japanese though
