I think cult/cultlike behavior is determined by agreeing with someone regardless of what they say. I also think the opposite is close to the same mindlessness. If Trump has a good idea, even if all his other ideas are stupid as hell, if he gets one thing right, he is right about that one thing, right?. Or do we disagree about that? It might be formulated badly, but from my point of view, it seems that the idea of tariffs (however badly Trump implements it) has been a no-zone for republicans for 20+ years, until Trump talks about it. I think tariffs have value.
