"Blank check" logic is merely just logic that gets to pretend that it was always correct post-hoc. Did the story suck? Then clearly the author didn't have a good reason. Did the story rock? Then the author clearly had a good reason. In both cases the reason was "because they had a story they wanted to tell," and the validity of the same thing being applied is sheerly based on the results: things that don't have anything to do with said reason. What matters is if they came up with a resonant story, which has nothing to do with any particular "reason." And I'm merely explaining my position.
