Topic | It's 2025. The Last Jedi hate is way overblown |
JaiCSC 06/07/25 1:25:10 PM #38: | I'm by no means the biggest star wars fan so take my opinions with a pinch of salt. I don't hate them as much as everyone else. But make no mistake, The prequels are worse movies in the series (though I still really Obi-Wan in them). Original Trilogy is a classic. The sequel trilogy, is disappointing more than bad to me. The Force Awakens, I thought was a great movie. Every time I watched it I was excited and felt like Star Wars was back. The Last Jedi... The ideas on paper, the elevator pitch, is really good. Our heroes are backed into a corner and to give themselves a way out Finn goes on a mission only to see the extent of the harm by and ambivalence to the First order. Meanwhile, Rey has found Luke Skywalker who has fallen and become lost to despair when the Galaxy needs him the most. But the execution is just bad. I hated what was done with Like Skywalker. Hated it. I have NO objections to bringing him to his lowest moment, having him be lost and jaded... Provided that he rises up and stands tall again. But that doesn't happen. The reasons for his self exile feel like they came from a place he wouldn't have gone to. And then he dies in this one and it feels so unceremonious. Luke Skywalker, didn't need to be the hero or the main character, but he should never feel an afterthought. Then we have the rest which is heavy handed and paced horribly. And then there's the subversion of expectations, it comes off as done for the sake of it with no follow in mind. It may be a better movie than the prequels and Rise of Skywalker. But it is one I dislike the most, it wasted its potential and seemingly tore down Luke Skywalker for the sake of tearing him down. --- I Shot the Sheriff. ... Copied to Clipboard! |
