As somebody who works at a register, cashless is the best thing to ever happen. No checking for counterfeits, nobody trying to argue over change, nobody trying to pay only in change, no breaking a $100 bill on a $3 purchase, no sweaty bills that came out of underwear, etc.

It is legal. Most transactions aren't a debt because no service has been rendered yet, therefore you're allowed to specify what form of payment you're willing to accept. But in the case of, for example, a restaurant that serves your food before bringing the check, they're not allowed to be cashless because the service has already been rendered, therefore it's a debt. A restaurant that takes the payment before giving you your food, however, can refuse cash because you haven't received the food yet.

I guess that does make sense.
