It's not really known what kind of effect it would have. There's a debate in the science community if some other animal could fill the role of the mosquito. There's nothing that eats exclusively mosquitoes so it's not the same thing as extincting eucalyptus or bamboo. The closest it gets are dragonflies who eat like 90% mosquito larvae.

Malaria would be fucked but nobody cares about non-animal eukaryotes.

But what eats dragonflies? What eats mosquitoes? What eats the things that eats those insects?

The food chain is most vulnerable on the bottom rung and I have to assume it's going to have a bigger impact than eliminating elephants, even if we don't quite understand the impact outright.
