There are certainly modern branches of Islam that reject the notion of violence and conquest but there are still branches that use violence as a way to oppress people like what's currently happening in Nigeria.

Pretty much this. Like I said, there's been an overcorrection where we can rightly call out far right Christian theocracy, but some people twiddle their thumbs and look uncomfortable when it's talking far right Islamic theocracy.

Or the attempts to whitewash things like the Umayyad or Abbasaid Caliphates and Ottoman Empire which were violent, expansionist empires that had thriving slave markets and institutionalized sex slavery.
