It was mainly racism. The show was a very good way of handling a character's origin story even though it deviated from the source. The deviation was understandable as The Inhumans did poorly and they probably didn't want to continue down that angle.

People were complaining that she was a POC despite the fact that her source material has her as a POC. They saw a mosque for like 2 seconds in the trailer and were like "stop forcing woke on us."

A small number of people were upset at the change to the origin of her powers but that seemed to be a very small minority of the complaints.

Now, The Marvels I could understand people disliking except again the main complaint was that the movie was pushing a woke agenda by having an all female lead cast and 2 of them were POCs. Nevermind the fact the movie did nothing to explain why Captain Marvel was inexplicably missing from Infinity War not did it do a good job of highlighting just how powerful she is in the MCU. There was plenty to critique the movie over but almost all of the negative reviews seemed to be originating from the incel thought train of the manosphere.
