The worst part about Acrobat is that a standard user can upgrade from Reader to Standard or Pro just by signing in with a licensed account, no admin rights are required. BUT, they cannot downgrade, so if they no longer have a license, they can't go from Pro down to Standard or either version down to Reader. It requires admin rights because you have to uninstall the software (which is a massive PITA by itself) and then reinstall Reader.

And they basically have made it so you can't download the full version installer anymore. You can only download a program that downloads the actual installer, so it takes so much longer if you need to install on multiple machines.

What's even worse is how they hijack web browsers (and then nag you to accept even further integration on top of that). This is to the point you can't use PDFs in your web browser anymore without signing in. And Adobe, hurting for money oh so much, only lets you log into two machines at once.

My job used to have Old National Bank (this after several anti-consumer bank mergers). Their check scanner system was so antiquated they required using Internet Explorer Mode in Microsoft Edge. This was less than two years ago. In any case, this awful web scanner system would fail to function properly without the Acrobat plugin, which refused to work with Acrobat Pro signed in with a valid license as a web plugin. Terrible company. They deserve to go the way of long-eclipsed relics of the past like AOL.

And yes, I know checks are obsolete. But with companies more and more passing payment processing costs directly to clients/consumers and more importantly when you have 80, 90, 100 year old clients... you need to accept checks.
