i'm kinda scared of getting my gallbladder out... it's elective so I don't -have- to do it, and I'm not afraid of the surgery proper. What I AM afraid of is anesthetization

Unless you have an established allergy to anesthetic (which they should theoretically test for), you should be 100% fine.

My surgery was no big deal. I barely remember it, as opposed to my memories of being wheeled around in hallways and loaded into MRIs while in intense pain. Though the Demerol helped out a bit for a while once they were willing to shoot me up.

It wasn't a big deal at all. As long as you've got a month or so to recover afterwards (and an extra month after that of not lifting anything too heavy or exerting yourself too much), you should be okay. It helps if you have someone who can help take care of you (especially for the first week or so), but it seems a lot scarier than it actually is.

And while your case is elective (mine was most very definitely not), if it's a case where the doctor is saying you have issues and should definitely have it done, I'd go for it if you can. You're much better off handling it now while it's not a huge problem, rather than waiting until it become a life-threatening demon gnawing at your abdomen like it was for me.
