I've had an African grey (the vet killed him with the wrong medication), cockatiels, and parakeets. They're a lot of fun, but really needy if kept alone and usually only take to one person and bite everyone else. They need attention all the time or will squawk and go crazy, sometimes ripping their feathers out. Plus they make a mess with the feather dust and bird feed everywhere.

Awesome pets if you have the dedication it takes to keep a bird. Lots of them get rehomed because people didn't know what they were getting into, or maybe died and no one else wanted the responsibility. Even rehoming can be hard if the bird attacks anyone but the original owner.
