This was all about some ugliness that were not part of, Moore said. Were not in politics. Were just some guys in Virginia making good whisky. But unfortunately, were the victims.
Just because you're not interested in politics doesn't mean politics isn't interested in you.

Pretty sure there were some apolitical Germans back in the 1930s as well.

The perception is that travelers arent as welcome as they once were, Freeman said. The most important thing the administration can do is send a message to travelers around the world that the US is open to business to legal travelers.
I always love when people (usually ones linked to the administration and/or kissing their ass) act like this is the problem - that people are just too scared to come across the border.

I mean yeah, that's a factor, but it's far from the dominant one. Canadians aren't scared to come to the US; we're angry.

When your spray-tanned blowhard of a president kicks off a trade war that has cost our countrymen jobs and freely talks about annexing us into the US, you can be damn fucking sure we're going to hit back in any way we can. Fuck him and fuck anyone who supported him.

I am pleased as punch that this boycott has staying power and has been effective. I'm seeing the effects in my own industry. This year I was invited to speak at a conference in Texas, and usually about half the attendees are from Canada. Typically, this is a conference you apply to speak at, not one that invites people, and every time I've gone in the past I usually deal with some low-level functionary at the association to coordinate things. This year, a board member from the association was reaching out to try and drum up support and talk up how they would really, really love to have me and how they were offering special perks for presenters.

I explained to them very firmly that I am not currently travelling to the US for any reason and would therefore not be attending the conference in any capacity. The board member asked if I would be willing to give a presentation online instead - I thought about it, but that would still result in additional revenue flowing to the US, so I declined. The board member was disappointed, but their response made it sound like this was an ongoing issue and I have since heard through the grapevine there's a decent possibility they'll have to cancel the conference altogether (for the first time basically since it started) because they can't find a way to not lose money if the vast majority of Canadians aren't coming.
